End of Day Reflections
Today I reached almost all of my goals. I'm still struggling a little with my literary analysis paper. I don't really know what to do about it, but I guess I'll figure it out. But I got my goals done for my photography project and Kelly and I talked about what I would do for my music psychology project. Overall, it was a very successful day and a lot of fun!

Literary Analysis #1 for The Girl with Glass Feet
For my literary book, I have chosen to read The Girl with Glass Feet. It is written by Ali Shaw and is about a young girl named Ida who once vacationed in the mystical St. Hauda's Land. During her vaction on this mysterious island, she developed a disease that began to take root in her feet. She was turning to glass. Now, she has returned to the island to find a cure before the glass takes over her whole body. Once there she meets Midas, who has lived on the island his whole life. They develop a friendship where he helps her come to terms with her illness, and slowly, they begin to fall in love. The theme that I think is prevalent in this book is love. Midas falls in love with her no matter what she looks like, Ida still has the ability to love even though she is being overtaken by this disease, and they both create a deep and ever-lasting bond that will continue on even after they are both gone.

OHpedia Project Reflection
How was the OHpedia project important to you?
It was important to me because I learned a lot more about World War II than I had thought I would. I got to completely focus on this one standard for a good amount of time and really learn about it.
How did your expectations of what you could do as a learner change throughout this project?
I thought that when we first started this project, it would be really boring and uninteresting and we wouldn't put a lot of effort into it. But as we worked more and more on it, I found that I was interested in what was going on. So by getting to create a project that Nathan and I both wanted to do and by getting excited about it and motivating each other, we created a website with our information that I am really proud of.
In what ways did you become more persistent or tolerant throughout the process?
There were a few different situations where I became more persistant and/or tolerant. One of them was when we were getting close to the deadline and we had a lot of benchmarks left to write about. This is when Nathan and I buckled down and worked really hard to complete them. We kind of had a fun race going as well to see who could finish first. We kept each other motivated by sending the information to each other whenever we would finish something. We both were also very tolerant with our crazy schedules and trying to find time to meet. Nathan made sure that we stayed in constant communication and I made sure that we were always on task. This way we created a tolerance with each other.
What satisfied you most about this project?
I was really satisfied when we put all of the information on the website and made it look really good. I also enjoyed making the flow chart, I think that that was a really important part of our project. When I finished it I felt so accomplished and I was truly proud of the project that we created.
What things about this project really matched your style of learning?
I really liked having a partner there to help me stay organized and not lose track of what we are doing. Also, a lot of this project involved reading and writing, which are both my strong suits.
What will you always remember about this project?
Pertaining to the actual project, I will remember The Nuremberg Trials the most because they were the benchmark that I was most interested in. Personally, I will remember all of the mornings that Nathan would wake me up by texting me and telling me that it's time to get to work!

Today's Reflection
I'm feeling very confident about Nathan and I's project. I feel like we have put very useful information into each of our benchmarks and we have worked hard. I think we have been very successful thus far. Collaborating with Nathan is going great, at least from my end of the spectrum. Its been fairly easy communicating with him. He seems to be more of the organizer and I just go in and do what he says needs to be done. But I think that we have shared responsibility of our project 50/50. And yes, we are on pace.

Well... First of all, I am typing this on my phone, so cool!!! :)
And now to my week...
Today I worked on my project with Nathan, now that we have the go ahead to work on our benchmarks. We have done three benchmarks total, complete with pictures!!
This week has been a very good PBL week for me, but not with FLVS. I have done an awful job in FLVS. I didn't get that much done at all. But I finished my schedule spreadsheet and I seem to be doing fine.
Now, off to Telluride!

Good afternoon!
Today was an extremely successful PBL day. I completed all of my goals and I felt like I did very well at communicating with my partner. I noticed that switching up where I sit helps me to stay more focused. All morning I worked on the couch and it was a lot of fun! Then this afternoon, because the weather was so nice, McKenzie and I went and worked on our civil war and literary analysis papers outside. We sat out on the green and it was so nice and relaxing. I absolutely loved it! I think that my day was perfect and the only thing that I will change next time I work is actually have my partner with me. But it was also really good practice today since Nathan was home and I was at school, I think it helped prepare us for Telluride. We worked very well together and stayed in contact through skype. I would rate myself as a group member 9 out of 10 because I communicated effectively and made sure that we always had a plan but towards the end of the day I did switch and start working on my paper a little. Overall, I had a great day and an awesome afternoon spent hanging out with McKenzie...

Daily Goals Check Out
Did you achieve your daily goals?
Yes I did. I met with Mr. Randy and we went over Nathan and I's planning form and then I got to work. First, I split the benchmarks for our standard up. We have fifteen so I took the first 8 and gave Nathan the last 7. Then I went and found three websites for each of the benchmarks. Prior to this, I also found some useful information about World War II in general and I evernoted it. So overall, I completed my daily goals.
Why or why not?
Well I felt like I was pretty focused today. I knew what I needed to get done and I completed it. Because we don't have "checkmarks" in PBL it feels like we aren't getting that much done. But I know that we moved ahead a lot today.
What did you notice about yourself as a learner today?
I noticed that when I want to be focused, I can be. But I lose focus easily when something else is going on in the room or if I hit a speed bump (such as not being able to find something). Sometimes what is going on outside or in the room around me easily distracts me so I need to work on finding a center and staying focused throughout the day. I found that by skyping my friends instead of turning around to talk to them really helps me because it doesn't turn into a full blown conversation so quickly.

Work Habits
My work habits last week for PBL days were pretty successful. I actually thought that I was focused most of the time. There were some times where I would get off task and lose focus, but I feel that overall I did pretty well. I got most of what I needed to get done, done. My Friday was a little rough but I think that the reason for that was because I wasn't feeling very good. My partner and I stayed on task and didn't stray most of the time, but we could easily lose focus as well. There were two instances where I would lose interest and become sort of "social," when I got confused about what was going on and when Nathan and I both finished what we were supposed to do. But in the end, I think our habits were very good.

Today was another PBL day! We started off our morning with a long morning meeting and then we went into PBL time. Most, if not all, of our morning consisted of creating a grading rubric for our projects. Nathan and I got together and summarized our group google document, and then we all got together and helped create a rubric. We had a quick brain break inside (because its so cold outside), and then worked on our rubric some more. Right before lunch, we had to write two blogs. The first was just posting what Nathan and I summed up and the second was a definition for metacognition. Then it was time for lunch and kickball.
After lunch, kickball, and music... we came back to school and started working on our project planning form. We answered three out of five questions and will finish it on Friday.
After today's work, I feel pretty good about our rubric and planning projects (Because I know that Nathan and mine will be awesome! haha). Towards lunch I was having trouble focusing after spending so much time on the grading rubric, but hopefully it will be great when we are finished.
The next steps that we are going to take is to finish our project planning form and meet with one of the facilitators to discuss our project. Nathan and I's standard is about World War II.
Overall, I feel like we had a very successful PBL day, and now I will go home and work on my FLVS homework.

Metacognition
Metacognition:
1. The act of thinking about thinking.
2. Metacognition is the awareness individuals have of their own mental processes and the subsequent ability to monitor, regulate, and direct themselves to a desired end. Students demonstrate metacognition if they can articulate what strategies they used to read and understand a text. (http://www.learner.org/workshops/readingk2/front/keyterms2.html)
Meta is used to mean about and cognition is the scientific term for "process of thought."
Being metacognitive is the knowledge of how human beings learn and process information as well as understanding your own personal learning processes.

Civil War Project
For my Civil War project, Kylie and I were in a group together. Our essential question was, "How did Abraham Lincoln's decision to change his view on slavery affect the outcome of the war?" We decided that the best way to portray this question through a project was by creating an interview with Abraham Lincoln. We went through the process of writing a script, filming, and editing which was tough to learn and we also discovered new ways to make our project more interesting with things such as fun facts. Throughout this experience, I learned many things about creating an interview, filming and editing it, and learning about the person we were interviewing, Abraham Lincoln.
When Kylie and I first got together, we didn't know exactly what we were going to put in our interview. We eventually decided to ask President Lincoln questions surrounding things like his childhood, his election, and his personal views on slavery in general. To determine this, we had to research a lot of things that wouldn't normally be on the front of many webpages. We had to delve deeper into our research and find answers to questions that weren't normally asked. Through this, we created an interview that could be controversial and enticing. Not only did we have to find questions to ask, but we also had to answer them like we were Abraham Lincoln. So through this process, I learned how to interview people and also how to cooperate with other people and listening to their ideas as well as my own.
For our interview, Kylie and I were the interviewers and Jordin played Abraham Lincoln for us. We decided that to make our interview look authentic, we should film from two angles. Shortly after we made this decision, we learned that it was going to be a harder task than we originally thought. Through the editing process, we learned that by having two cameras, we would sometimes accidentally see both cameras in a shot. We also learned through the editing process that we forgot to remove everyday objects, since our interview was supposed to be in 1864, so we had a few missplaced items such as phones and lamps. Through filming and editing this video, I learned about the different angles people film with, where the best lighting is, what should and shouldn't be in the film, how to make the video interesting, and more.
Not only did we learn about the overall process of making an interview, we also learned about the person we were interviewing. President Abraham Lincoln changed his public view of slavery during his election, and Kylie and I wanted to discover why, after his whole life believing in slavery, he would be against it. After we searched and read many things about Abraham Lincoln we came to the conclusion that personally, his views didn't change, but to help end the war and stop slavery from spreading any farther, changing his public views on slavery was immensely neccessary. We learned about this President and how he had come to be known as one of the best Presidents we've ever had.
Through writing a script for our interview, filming and editing it, and learning about Abraham Lincoln himself, Kylie and I took a lot away from this project. Personally, I feel like I have a much better understanding of who President Lincoln was and what he believed in. I also learned how to research information to come up with questions and answers for our interview. Through the filming and editing process, I learned how to make a video that people would be interested in watching and from this project, I gained an understanding of some of our twenty-first century technology and how that could help me go back in time to learn about a President and a war that changed our country and our world.
